AMERICA - WEST SIDE STORY

America is a well-known song from the musical West Side StoryLeonard Bernstein composed the music; Stephen Sondheim wrote the lyrics.

West Side Story is a 1961 musical film directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The film is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was adapted from William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet.

This movie transplants the play Romeo and Juliet to New York City in the 1950s. The two families that hate each other are replaced by two street gangs. The Montagues become the Jets (white immigrants, probably from Eastern Europe), led by Riff, and the Capulets become the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. At a dance, Tony, former leader of the Jets and Riff’s best friend, and Maria, Bernardo’s little sister, see each other across the room and it’s love at first sight. With opposition from both sides, they meet secretly and their love grows deeper.....
